Theatre Workshop of Nantucket 2024 Season

For nearly seven decades, Theatre Workshop of Nantucket has been entertaining, enriching, challenging, and inspiring our island community and visitors with theatrical works of the highest standards. TWN’s 2024 season opens on June 5 with Sense & Sensibility, a playful new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel that follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters—sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne—after their father’s sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18th-century England, with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality. Sense & Sensibility examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart?Sense & Sensibility continues through June 22 in the TWN theatre in Bennett Hall, 62 Centre Street.

Before Rent, there was Tick, Tick…Boom! This autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, award-winning composer of Rent, is the story of a composer and the sacrifices that he made to achieve his big break in theatre. With fourteen songs, ten characters, three actors, and a band, Tick, Tick… Boom! takes audiences on the playwright/composer’s journey that led to a Broadway blockbuster. This 90-minute production is on stage from July 27 to August 15.

Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie which was inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by Wadsworth (the butler), Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up. Clue will leave both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out…WHO did it, WHERE, and with WHAT!  See this comedy whodunit from July 10 to August 24.

Described as “razor-sharp, charming, funny, and genuinely moving,” Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks is an extremely popular two-character comedy/drama. On the TWN stage from September 11 to 28, this play received its world premiere in 2001 at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. It received its East Coast premiere in 2003 on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre. The feature-film adaptation of the play premiered in 2014.

TWN’s holiday production has always been magical. Watch for their announcement of this year’s holiday feature in a few weeks.
