What’s New on Nantucket: July 6, 2019

The Flight of Icarus + Co

Owners Krys DeMauro and Caroline Mullen, high-school friends who are now business partners, have created a jewelry, art, and home collections that offer timeless pieces for customers.  “We are both very drawn to the ocean and nature, and this island is a constant source of inspiration,” says Caroline. You will often find the owners working on pieces and sharing their process with shoppers who drop by their shop on Old South Wharf.  Not only will you get a customized piece, but also you will get customized service.

At the heart of many of their pieces is a little bit of Nantucket itself.  Stones and shells from island beaches have been carefully chosen, and often cast in metal to create gorgeous pieces that will remain a permanent part of any jewelry collection.  Be sure to check out their Shattered Sea Shard Earrings and the Nantucket Beach Stone Necklace, each is “organic yet simple.”

Icarus + Co. is located at 19 Old South Wharf and is open every day: Sunday-Thursday from 11 am to 7 pm and Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 8pm.  Let your personal style soar to new heights and check out the new Icarus + Co shop and icarusandco.com

The Beet Goes On

The beet is Nantucket’s newest restaurant that features a menu of healthy dining options in an inviting, playful, and musical environment. Playing off the concept of “keeping the beat,” the beet features a delicious assortment of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items that can be enjoyed in the restaurant or from the comfort of your beach chair. Customers will find options for everyone, including “the beet box,” just for kids. Owners Amy Young and Felino Samson have created a menu that combines the finesse of “fine dining with real food.”

Customer favorites include “the breakfast club,” a hearty start with egg, cheddar, smoked badon, and caramelized onion aioli, that people “love, love, love,” exclaims Young.  For lunch, a fresh salad or one of their unique sandwiches is the way to go, all equally as popular among customers.  If you’re dining in, be sure to check out their beverages, including a curated wine and beer list.  Online orders can be placed at thebeetnantucket.com—a timesaving feature so your food is ready when you want it, allowing you to plan ahead during a busy summer day.

Popular with locals and visitors, the beet’s fun and relaxed atmosphere will keep you coming back all season long.  The beet is located at 9 South Water Street and open daily from 8am to 8pm.
