This weekend — Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14 — their Nantucket store at 40 Straight Wharf is hosting a special event to celebrate the company’s flagship recycling initiative, the Native Shoes Remix™ Project. Remix recycles your well-loved shoes to give them new life in projects across the community. It’s just one part of their plan to create a positive impact for our planet.
The Remix Project was born out of one of company’s key purposes: encouraging everyone to ask more WHAT IFs. They asked the question: “what if we could recycle our shoes to give them a second life?” From there, Native Shoes investigated ways in which they could grind and repurpose the bouncy, lightweight materials for which their shoes are known and loved.
The unique composition of Native Shoes can be reground into versatile material that is useful in the creation of seating, playground flooring, insulation, and more. Other shoes that are donated to the Remix effort are sorted and donated to good causes or recycled via the companies around the world with whom Native Shoes has partnered. From that point – there’s no telling where your soles could turn up!
It’s easy and free to recycle your shoes this weekend during the Nantucket Native Shoes Remix Event! Just bring your shoes–any style and from any brand–to the Native Shoes store at 40 Straight Wharf (next to the HyLine office). Beth and her very helpful staff will show you with where to place the pairs and are happy to assist you in selecting something new with a 10% off coupon toward any pair of Native Shoes in the shop: walking shoes, deck shoes, sandals, and slip-on mules that pack easily for travel.
