Every September, runners, walkers, and families gather at Bartlett’s Farm for a morning that means far more than a finish line. For one day, an island that often struggles in silence with addiction comes together, loudly and proudly, to say: recovery is possible, and it’s worth celebrating.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Race for Recovery, presented by Addiction Solutions of Nantucket — and it’s shaping up to be the biggest one yet.
A Decade of Showing Up
Since Dr. Tim Lepore launched Addiction Solutions of Nantucket out of his own office in 2005, the organization has become one of the island’s most essential, if quietly run, lifelines. Alongside Aline Wommack, Dr. Lepore has spent two decades treating Nantucketers battling alcoholism and substance abuse, offering counseling, drug testing, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) to anyone who walks through the door, no matter their ability to pay.
For ten years, the Race for Recovery has been the community’s way of standing behind that work. It’s part fundraiser, part awareness campaign, and part celebration — a chance for people in recovery, their families, and their neighbors to move through the same finish line together. Every registration, every sponsorship, and every donation goes directly toward funding Dr. Lepore’s MAT clinic and keeping treatment accessible on an island where help can otherwise feel very far away.
What’s New for Year Ten
To mark the milestone, this year’s race is growing. Alongside the classic 5K run and 1-mile walk, ASN is introducing a brand-new 10K for runners ready to go the extra distance for a cause worth it. Kids can join in too, with a free kids’ race that kicks things off before the main event.
Here’s What to Know:
- When: Sunday, September 27, 2026 — kids’ race at 8:45 am, 10K/5K/1-mile walk at 9:00 am and onward
- Where: Bartlett’s Farm, Nantucket
- Bib pickup: Friday, 10 am–4 pm at Murray’s Toggery Shop, or Saturday, 3:30–5:30 pm at Bartlett’s Farm (also available race-morning)
- After the race: Stick around for awards, door prizes, and refreshments
- Can’t make it to the island? Join virtually — run a 5K or walk a mile wherever you are, then upload your results through RunSignUp
Every runner, jogger, and walker is welcome, whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply showing up to be counted.
Why It Matters More than
a Finish Line
Addiction doesn’t always look the way people expect. On Nantucket, where housing is scarce, seasonal work is relentless, and winters can be long and isolating, substance use touches nearly every family in one way or another. ASN’s mission has never been just about treatment, it’s about breaking the silence and stigma that keep people from asking for help in the first place.
That’s what makes the Race for Recovery more than a race. It’s a very public, very visible reminder that recovery is happening here, every day, and that the community is willing to show up, mile by mile, to support it.
