The Nantucket Atheneum has announce the return of One Book, One Island (OBOI), the island’s cherished community-wide reading program. We heard you — and we’re bringing OBOI back! The program will officially return in March of 2026 with free books and a renewed focus on celebrating reading, conversation, and connection across Nantucket.
While the book selection will not be revealed until February, readers can expect a fun twist this year — the featured book will be a mystery written by a Nantucket author.
Starting March 1st, 2026, free copies of this year’s OBOI title will be available at the Nantucket Atheneum.

One Book, One Island is designed to bring Nantucket residents together through shared reading, conversation, and storytelling — an opportunity for islanders to experience literature as a unified community.
A community-wide celebration will take place on Sunday, March 29, featuring a book discussion with the author, a trivia contest, and additional activities inspired by the selected mystery. The Atheneum invites everyone to join in the festivities and help mark the return of this island favorite.
And for those who can’t get enough mystery: whether you’re a devoted detective, a casual clue-hunter, or just here for the dramatic reveal, you won’t want to miss it. Save the date for the 1st Murder Mystery Party at the Nantucket Atheneum on Saturday, April 4th! It will be a paid, limited-capacity event — tickets will go fast!
