The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) will be launching Mindful History, a series of programs for participants to discover their personal connection to art and history through a variety of program offerings. Mindful History will run from February through early May of 2023.
“We are grateful to be able to offer programming like this for the year-round community during the quiet winter months. The Whaling Museum and our historic properties offer unique settings from a wellness perspective to build a personal connection or connect with others,” says Niles Parker, Gosnell Executive Director.
Mindful History experiences will include participant-based conversation and reflection using the Whaling Museum collections, yoga and meditation, and free-flow Decorative Arts. All programming will be free for participants, with the exception of an instructor fee for yoga and meditation offerings.
“The Visitor Operations team is excited to launch this new program, which invites interpersonal connection through art. Participants are guided through a multi-step process to See, Think, Connect, and Uncover their relationships to various pieces in our collection. It is an exciting way to explore Nantucket’s history, and our museum guides are eager to share this new museum experience,” says Miranda Dale, Director of Visitor Experience.
The NHA is partnering with Fairwinds, Nantucket’s Counseling Center, to conduct Nantucket Mindful History programming and offer its services to participants. The Tupancy-Harris Foundation generously supports this program. The Nantucket Historical Association’s mission is to preserve and interpret the history of Nantucket through its programs, collections, and properties in order to promote the island’s significance and foster an appreciation of it among all audiences.
