This Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11, 2026, the Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is hosting its annual Wet Paint Weekend, a beloved island tradition. This vibrant, art-filled weekend will span several locations including the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery, the Nantucket Yacht Club, and historic downtown Nantucket. A signature event of the fall season, Wet Paint brings together artists, collectors, and art lovers for a unique celebration of Nantucket’s thriving arts community. The weekend features a gallery opening reception, art hop, and an exciting live and silent auctions—all free and open to the public.
This year, AAN is honored to name acclaimed painter Illya Kagan as the 2026 Wet Paint Honoree Artist. Kagan is a celebrated plein air painter whose work captures the changing beauty of the landscape throughout the seasons. Working directly from nature, he paints with a freshness and spontaneity evident in the saturated colors and bold brushstrokes that are hallmarks of his distinctive style.
“Wet Paint is one of the most anticipated weekends on our calendar. It is a wonderful celebration of the artists who make Nantucket such a special place,” said Tracey Sears, Executive Director.
“We are especially pleased to honor Illya Kagan this year. As an AAN Life Member and longtime member of our artistic community, Illya’s commitment to painting directly from nature and his distinctive vision have made a lasting contribution to Nantucket’s art community.”
The 2026 Wet Paint Weekend will be chaired by Maryann Jones and Kit Manigan whose leadership will help bring together artists and the community for another memorable weekend celebrating the visual arts on Nantucket. All proceeds from Wet Paint Weekend support AAN’s mission to foster the visual arts on Nantucket, including arts education, year-round gallery exhibitions, artist programs, and community outreach.
