The Nantucket Community Music Center proudly presents the 33rd Annual Nantucket Pipe Organ Crawl on October 5, 2024. This year’s event, themed “Hats Off to the Ladies: Women Composers and the Pipe Organ,” will shine a spotlight on the often-overlooked contributions of female composers to the world of pipe organ music. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to tour some of Nantucket’s most historic churches and venues while enjoying live performances of pieces composed by extraordinary women composers, past and present.
The 2024 Pipe Organ Crawl will start at with a concert in St. Mary Our Lady of the Isle on Federal Street at 9:30 a.m. The crawl is free, with donations accepted and no tickets required. Attendees can join the entire tour or just drop in for a concert or two.
The event will explore the island’s collection of beautifully preserved pipe organs. Each stop will feature live demonstrations by talented organists performing works by renowned women composers such as Florence Price, Jeanne Demessieux, Fanny Mendelssohn, and contemporary composers like Emma Lou Diemer. Attendees will also learn about the history of each organ and its importance to Nantucket’s musical heritage.
