Cold Turkey Plunge Goes Beyond Nantucket This November

by Kaley Kokomoor

The Nantucket Atheneum’s Cold Turkey Plunge is back for its 19th year, and for 2020, to keep participants safe, this Nantucket Thanksgiving morning tradition has gone virtual. And participants may plunge any day in November.

Proceeds from this event benefit the Weezie Library for Children at the Nantucket Atheneum. Over the last 18 years, the Plunge has raised $1.2 million dollars for the Children’s Library. The goal for 2020 is to raise $100,000.

There are only two rules to plunge during this 2020 fundraiser: you must plunge outside, and you must plunge during the month of November. Get creative with your plunge at the beach, in a pool, or even in an icy sprinkler! You can plunge on Nantucket Island or wherever you happen to be this month.

All registrants will receive a Turkey Plunge mask. Those who raise more than $250 will also be entered into a raffle. Four prizes will be awarded to participants: Furthest plunge from Nantucket, Top Three Fundraisers, Most Creative Venue/Style, and Most Spirited. To be considered for one of these categories, post your plunge photos to Instagram or Facebook with the hashtags #ackturkeyplunge and #plungedayyourway — costumes are encouraged!

Send videos and photos of your plunge to events@nantucketatheneum.org by November 15th and you might be included in the Atheneum’s Thank You video.

Challenge friends and family! Once you’ve taken the Plunge, tag three friends or family members on social media to challenge them to take the Cold Turkey Plunge!

Register to take the plunge on register.nantucketatheneum.org. Here you’ll find all the information you need to sign up, join or start a team, fundraise, or donate to the Weezie Library. Scroll to the bottom of that page to view the team standings and link to your favorite team of Plungers.
