What to Do on Nantucket for Valentine’s Day

During February on Nantucket Island, it’s tempting to hunker down and stay at home protected from the cold, windy, raw, and snowy weather.  But Valentine’s Day is one of the few winter holidays that can convince us to venture out.  Here are some of our suggestions for Valentine fun for everyone.

Start the evening early with a Pints and Paints at Cisco Brewers at 5:00 pm.  For Valentine’s Day, participants will paint on stemless wine glasses instead on on canvas.  To reserve a space (or two) call Lindsay at Cisco, 508-325-5929 x1001.

At 6pm, Nantucket High School’s select chorus group The Accidentals & Naturals will present A Valentine Serenade Concert in the high school auditorium.  Admission is $5.

Head into town for a romantic dinner for two at Centre Street Bistro — they are usually closed Tuesday nights in winter, but they are opening specially for dinner on Tuesday, February 14 from 5:30 pm.  Chefs Tim and Ruth Pitts are cooking up a  Valentine’s dinner for two in addition to their regular menu.  Reservations at 508-228-8470

For fun at Fifty-Six Union, make your reservation for a table in the front room or perch on a couple of seats around their long bar.  Their back room is quieter and more romantic.  Wherever you sit at Fifty-Six, you’ll enjoy a delicious meal with your sweetheart.  Make your reservation by calling 508-228-5135.

Modern chic meets casual comfort at Dune, in the heart of town.  Choose from Chef Getter’s regular menu, featuring oysters, beet salad, foie, scallop chowder, duck, salmon, boar, or halibut or savor his 5-course Winter Tasting menu with diverse and delectable tastes of land and sea. Dune Reservations at 508-228-5550.

If you’re including kids in your Valentine’s Day dinner, head to Kitty Murtagh’s.  They’re sure to have a fire in their upstairs fireplace, and they have dinner selections for the “Wee Ones.” Their new dinner menu includes Kitty’s favs plus new bites including Moroccan Lamb Meatballs, Kansale Seafood Chowder, Dublin Lawyer, West Creek Mac, and more. Reservations at 508-325-0781.

Atlas is offering Valentine’s Dinner with live jazz by the ACKtivators.  Chefs here are serving a 3-course dinner around their fireplace to add to the romance on February 14.  To reserve a table, call 508-825-5495.

The Nantucket Culinary Center is hosting events nearly every day during February, and on Valentine’s Day you can attend a Cooking with Love class + dinner from 6:30 to 10 pm.  Tickets are for two and include a cooking demonstration, dinner, and drinks.  The menu features local bounty of the sea, foods designed to be shared by two, and chocolate mousse vs. sabayon. There’s only space for 12 couples, so buy your tickets soon!  508-228-2665

It just takes one trip to Bartlett’s Farm to get just about everything you need for a Valentine’s dinner at home. Their dinner special on February 14 is prime rib with two sides.  While you’re there, you can pick up a bottle of wine and a special Valentine’s Day dessert made by the chefs at Bartlett’s.
